This picture was taken September 13, 2008, after a "century" (i.e. 100 mile) bike ride here in Upstate New York. This Highlander Century was particularly challenging as there was more than 10,000' of climbing. Google's terrain feature gives one a sense of the area. My Garmin GPS also recorded the ride. There's a reason I had a smile after finishing!

In an interesting twist, the organizers wrote participants' names on the steepest part of the route, where the grade is more than 20% (they used chalk paint which washes off in a month or two; this picture was from my ride there in 2006; I missed taking the pic in 2008). In an odder twist, they had a bagpiper at the top of the hill; I missed the meaning.

My name on the steepest part.
As you might guess, I cycle a fair amount. I'm also the Treasurer and former President of the Onondaga Cycling Club.
